These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Tilt University’s website, AI educational tools (including SmartEssay.AI and Smart-Reader.ai), and related services (collectively, the "Services").

Please read these Terms carefully. By using our Services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

1. What Tilt University Is

Tilt University creates teacher-built AI tools that help students develop real academic skills — especially critical thinking, reading comprehension, and writing. Our tools are designed to scaffold learning and make students think harder, not to do the work for them.

Our philosophy: AI should strengthen student thinking and support academic integrity, not replace student effort.

2. Acceptable Use & Academic Integrity (Very Important)

Our tools are intended only for legitimate educational skill-building.

You agree that you will:

  • Use the tools to brainstorm, outline, find evidence, organize ideas, and improve your own writing and thinking.

  • Always rewrite AI suggestions in your own voice.

  • Verify all sources and citations yourself.

  • Take full responsibility for the final work you submit for school or any other purpose.

  • Follow your school, college, or institution’s academic integrity policies.

You may NOT:

  • Submit AI-generated content as your own work without substantial original contribution, editing, and proper disclosure.

  • Use the tools to complete assignments in a way that violates your school’s rules on academic honesty.

  • Use the tools to generate work for someone else to submit as their own.

Warning: Many schools and universities consider submitting AI-generated work without disclosure as academic misconduct. You are solely responsible for understanding and following your institution’s policies.

3. User Content & Ownership

  • You retain full ownership of any writing, notes, essays, or content you create using our tools.

  • By using the Services, you grant us a limited license to process your inputs through our AI tools to provide the educational features you requested.

  • We do not claim ownership of your academic work.

4. No Guarantees

Our tools are designed to help you build skills. However:

  • We do not guarantee improved grades, test scores, or academic outcomes.

  • Results depend on your effort, how you use the tools, and many other factors.

  • The tools provide suggestions and scaffolding — they are not a substitute for your own thinking, research, or writing.

5. Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. If you are under 18, you should have permission from a parent or guardian. We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate age requirements.

6. Accounts & Subscriptions

Some features require a paid subscription or one-time purchase. 

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account.

  • Subscriptions may automatically renew unless canceled.

  • All sales are final except as required by law or stated in our refund policy.

7. Intellectual Property

All content, design, code, and AI models on Tilt University are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, reverse engineer, or create competing products using our tools or content.

8. Disclaimers

The Services are provided “as is.” We make no warranties that the tools will be uninterrupted, error-free, or perfectly accurate. AI suggestions are generated based on patterns and may sometimes be imperfect or incomplete.

We are not responsible for how you use the tools or for any consequences (including academic consequences) of your use.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Tilt University is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Services, including but not limited to academic penalties, lost work, or decisions made based on tool suggestions.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, misuse the tools, or engage in activity that harms the educational purpose of the platform.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as our tools and business evolve. Continued use of the Services after changes means you accept the new Terms.
